Pencil in a date without confirming it

When creating an event, choose the still deciding option rather than confirmed, and set "Hold this date until".

Save hold keeps it as a hold. Save cut and the other save options apply once you are further in.

This is the honest way to handle a client who is interested but has not signed. The date is visible to you so you do not double book it, without being counted as confirmed work.
